Installation

jiki can be installed via the npm registry and used directly.

Install

$ npm install @run0/jiki

Requirements

  • A modern browser with support for Service Workers and Web Workers
  • Node.js 18+ for build tooling (Vite, webpack, etc.)

Vite setup

If you’re using Vite, add the jiki plugin to your config:

// vite.config.ts
import { defineConfig } from "vite";
import react from "@vitejs/plugin-react";

export default defineConfig({
  plugins: [react()],
  optimizeDeps: {
    exclude: ["@run0/jiki"],
  },
  worker: {
    format: "es",
  },
});

Service Worker

jiki uses a Service Worker to intercept HTTP requests and route them to virtual servers running in the browser. You need to register the service worker in your app:

import { boot } from "@run0/jiki";

// The service worker is automatically registered
// when you boot the container
const container = boot();

TypeScript

jiki includes TypeScript declarations by default. No @types/ package is needed.

UI Components

For the UI components (CodeEditor, Terminal, BrowserWindow, FileExplorer), install the companion package:

npm install @run0/jiki-ui

These components are React-based and require React 19+.
